videopong+ , new embed, awards!

here come the latest news, right after the code publish…

a) new embed
the old „embed a clip in your website mechanism“ was still based on a very old flash. from now on we have a much better mechanism, which is actually the same player and size as your clips on videopong. please replace your clip-embeds with the new code. the old is still working for another month, but then the old player gets replaced with a message that shows you how to replace your embed code (just copy/paste then).

 

b) videopong+ membership
as you know videopong is fully non-commercial and a spare-time project. but still there are some bills to pay (server rent, domain names, player licences, …). i managed to finance videopong in the past with art-sponsorings, selling a white labeled version, crowd funding and paying by my own. i’ve never got any money from this project but think it should fund itself. so i ask you members to upgrade to a videopong+ membership, which is 10$ a year or once 100$ for a lifetime membership.

so here is the deal: with 10$ per year or 100$ once, you get a videopong+ membership: first it will unlock all cool features to come. second and most important you support videopong and allow it to stay alive and last but not least your share-ratio gets doubled and you get a lovely badge ( and ) !

no worry: all the features videopong offers now, keep staying for non-videopong+ members. but your help is highly appreciated. thanx!

awards, new rating system, new API!

we’ve been pretty active to optimise videopong and added also a very cool and important feature for all you developers out there… but lets start smooth:
a) top 2015 user awards (finally)
oh man, i forgot that completely. but now here are the users that uploaded the most and got the most positive ratings and downloads and so on. congrats to:

b) new rating system
it’s the long awaited simplification of the whole rating system. we only have up- and down-votes from now on! which is much easier and clearer than the old one. we’ve converted all votes in the database and some reputations (the upvotes minus the downvotes) changed and therefore the sort along the votes. so, sorry for the clips that went down a bit, but hurray to the ones that went up.
with or you can now also see what you’ve voted.

c) Public json-api to interface with videopong.net
yesss!!! its been so long on my todo/wish list i finally spent the time to add it. videopong has now a (almost) full featured api to interface with the huge pool of clips. even uploading is implemented. so this goes out to all vj-tool-hackers: get in contact if you’re interested to use that api in your application.

its already a year since the last videopong newsletter. wow that went pretty fast. anyway we still have news that you might have not noticed. so i keep it short:

a) a new uploader (january)
yes! upload a full batch of clips at once (you’re also able to drag and drop them). try it! its much more comfortable now. and of course we have DXV and HAP upload.

b) random-zappers (february)

dxv and hap sharing possible now

a) dxv and hap sharing – jippi!

Hap and DXV are both fantastic video codecs, but up until now it was not possible to share files encoded with them in Videopong, as there was no decoder for them on Linux. However we’ve come up with a hack that works, so sharing both is now possible! Just upload them like any other files. Please let us know if you encounter any problems sharing these files as we work through any kinks.

The Resolume plugin allows you to load all Videopong videos directly into your Resolume sessions – without needing to download them. By just pasting the video URLs into the plugin, you can try to integrate all kinds of clips with your set and favorite effects.

Just like any other video clips, you can use MIDI or OSC to play, pause and adjust the videos, and the timeline functions are all linked to the Resolume dashboard.

if you want to run contests, spread our news, php develop, translate, want to use videopong for class, hack hardware, organize an exhibition, make art,… we’re an open archive with an api and the possibility to maintain our own codebase, so we all can build lots of stuff around videopong (like our rating-station). get in contact.

We are pleased to announce a new plugin for Resolume (OSX and Windows): the Videopong Player! With it, you can load Videopong videos directly into your Resolume interface! Simply copy a Videopong URL from the address bar of your browser into the Resolume control panel and you’re good to go. You can layer any footage and apply blends, masks, alphas, RGB channels, resizes, etc. All timeline functions are linked to the Resolume dashboard, and you can use sliders or MIDI hardware to play, pause, set in/out points, scrub the timeline, or adjust the volume of your Videopong video in real time! d) html5 video
we finally have html5 support which means you should be able to watch all clips on videopong also on your mobile devices and non-flash-enabled computers.

e) your e-mail address can also be used as your login (besides the login itself)
on popular demand we enhanced the login mechanism to accept also your registered emailaddress as login. … and if you forgot your password get a new one here.

f) User without uploads are invisible…
… and are also limited in what functions they can use. we had to change this because of a raising spamflood. means: only user with uploads can use all functions of videopong. so go go go and upload your own creations.

as i’m preparing the next newsletter i had a look at some stats, and i don’t want to hide them, so here are the stats since 23.04.2008:

– 5’149 deleted clips (mostly copyright violations)
– 4’607 registered users
– 3’000h hours of work (coding)
– 1’619 users with uploads
– 1’000h hours of work (copyright violations and publishing and so on)
– 483GB occupied diskspace on the server
– 340 users on the vj-map
– 274 featured clips
– 70$ donations from users 2008-2014
– 57 user that cancled their accounts (most had severals)
– 46 blocked users
– 16 times presented, discussed and shown at Festivals all over Europe
– 6 contests with sponsored prizes from the industry
– 4 full translations
– 1 „fulltime“ staff member

it’s indeed a long time since the last newsletter but videopong.net itself is still a very buzzing platform and meanwhile there are
16’500 clips available from more than 4300 visual artists around the globe.

And we have even more amazing news for you:

a) New contest “IMMERSION” just started:
Win a Blendy Dome VJ License and get featured at the FULLDOME UK 2014 Festival!

yeah! we’re sure you’ve heard of Blendy Dome VJ: The Fulldome Mapping Software. BDVJ is an intuitive dome mapping tool that
features a realtime domemaster slicer, a 3D content viewer and much more. This next generation software can easily map any dome

be in the Domemaster 1K Format (1024x1024pixels, check this 1K Template and Description) but other content will also be
considered. If you’re the winner, you will be asked to provide at least a resolution of 2048×2048 pixels using this 2K Template.

b) Download-Basket
A great new Feature that can safe your live: Add clips to the Download-Basket and download them in one batch. The same works also
if you need to re-download all your already downloaded clips or even better with all your uploads. so after a data-loss you can quickly
recover with just a bunch of clicks. Check the “users” Menu for “my Downloads” and the “my Uploads” (which contains also some
nice statistics about your clips).

c) Videopong.net clip rating station on Tour
Do you host a Video-Art or VJ-Festival and would like to present videopong.net in an interactive way? I can send you the Rating
Station and you just need to plug it into a computer and let your guests explore the archive of videopong and rate the clips. get in
